Naomi is a psychotherapist and an artist. Her husband, Don, is a geology professor and photographer. The couple live part-time in the small community of Borrego Springs, California, where they share a passion for the desert. Naomi is of Native American ancestry and employed at a Native American health clinic. Her experience of the desert has been shaped both by her community as well as her sensibilities as an artist. The desert spoke to Naomi as a Native woman, and she began writing short narratives exploring her evolving relationship to the land and its plant and animal inhabitants. Occasionally she interwove her husband’s geologic perspectives into her pieces. She has written a series of short reflections, each accompanied by an original photo or an artistic work of hers.
